Alan McKee and Marc Waters make up MCM’s Litigation team, acting for companies and individuals in a range of commercial disputes. They understand the impact that a contractual dispute or an unpaid invoice have on a business and focus on finding a solution for their clients. They regularly appear in the courts and are specialists in the corporate recovery and insolvency sector, working regularly with restructuring professionals.
Alan is the Head of Litigation and has been practicing law for 20 years. He started out as a criminal defence lawyer, transitioning after his traineeship into civil legal aid work and, after a few years, to commercial disputes specialising in Insolvency law.
Alan’s professional work doesn’t just cover the legal sector and his many professional accolades include:
- Tutor of Civil Litigation, Professional Practice and Ethics at Strathclyde University for 14 years.
- Chaired the West of Scotland Insolvency Forum for 3 years and also sat on the ICAS Advisory Board throughout the period.
- Sat on the Stirling Law School Advisory Board for 3 years.
- Former Board Member and then Vice Chair of Cancer Research UK charity, Business Beats Cancer.
- Shareholder in Stenhousemuir Football Club. Signed a 1-year professional football contract with Partick Thistle FC, didn’t play a minute.
- Freelance Event Host.
Alan is a dad to two teenagers and spending time with his family is his main passion, followed by sport (he’s a qualified football coach and a former amateur boxer) and cooking. He also enjoys dancing (he made the finals at a Charity Strictly Come Dancing competition last year) and having a pint with friends.
Marc completed his studies part time at Strathclyde University whilst pursuing a career in professional football between the ages of 16 and 22. He has gained considerable court experience working in specialist litigation firms in both criminal and civil matters. Now solely focussing on civil matters Marc regularly appears in Sheriff Courts across Scotland. Post traineeship, Marc transitioned into commercial dispute resolution utilising the litigation skills honed during his time in the criminal courts and applying these to commercial disputes. He is a Professional Practice and Ethics Tutor at the University of Strathclyde.

In his personal life, Marc became a professional footballer after leaving school and his former clubs include Partick Thistle, Queens Park and Elgin City. He continues to play semi-professional football in the West of Scotland leagues with Arthurlie FC. He undertook university part time whilst pursuing professional football as a back-up plan. As well as a law degree, Marc has a degree in “Services, Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Northern Denmark.
Marc has recently completed an Ironman 70.3 in Amsterdam and is a keen cyclist. He is planning a full ironman soon. Any leftover spare time Marc has is usually spent chasing after his Border Collie, Bindy, at his local park or the beach.
